School News Wild
About Reading—it's great!!!
F-F
Elementary School kicked off its "Wild about Reading" school-wide
reading program on Wednesday, October 3rd with Animals on
Parade in the school parking lot.
Amidst the
festivities, Principal Henry told students about the special
program designed to promote reading at each of the grade levels.
Parents should have received a letter that details the programs
and lists the requested minutes of at-home reading for each grade
level.
Mrs. Henry
served as the safari guide and led the "roaring readers" on an
animal parade. The K-2 students wore animal masks and the 3-4
students carried flags which they decorated with an animal theme.
Many of the students and staff have been encouraged to wear
animal-themed or camouflage clothing for parade. The parade
continued to the back of the building where middle school students
cheered the elementary students on to reading success.
As part of
the program, students are asked to read nightly and record their
minutes. We are requesting the following times per grade level:
- K: 10
minutes per night/250 minutes per month
- 1st and
2nd: 15 minutes per night/ 360 minutes per month
- 3rd and
4th: 20 minutes per night/480 minutes per month
Every two to
three months, students who meet their goal will attend a special
movie with an animal theme in the auditorium. Students who missed
their reading goal will participate in our Roaring Reader
Read-a-thon.
If you did
not receive a copy of the letter or have more questions concerning
the program, please contact Principal Henry at the Elementary
School (853-3332).
