Attendance
Policy/Loss of Course Credit Policy
The New York
State Education Department has authorized the
implementation of comprehensive attendance policies for school
districts
in New York State. School attendance is a critical factor in
school
success for students. Essentially, consistent school attendance,
academic success and school completion have a positive
correlation.
In accordance with the new attendance regulations,
Fonda-Fultonville
High School requires every student be present for at least 80% of
all
scheduled class sessions. Thus, failure to meet this minimum
requirement will result in the loss of credit in that course.
Additionally, the comprehensive attendance policy delineates
between
excused and unexcused absences for the purposes of monitoring
course
credit. The following are a sample of excused absences: illness;
illness or death in the family; unsafe travel conditions;
religious
observance; medical appointments; quarantine; required court
appearance;
participation in a school-sponsored activity; approved college
visitations; and approved cooperative work programs. Students must
provide written documentation with parent (or physician) signature
as
verification of excused absences within two (2) school days of the
absence. You are also encouraged to contact your son/daughter's
guidance counselor in the event of a prolonged absence.
Loss of Course
Credit Policy
At the conclusion of a course, any student who has exceeded the
number
of absences listed below will have his/her grade recorded with the
notation (N) on the grade sheet and permanent record. This (N)
will
indicate no credit was earned for the course.
Maximum Course Absences
* Full year course 32
* Semester course 16
* BOCES course 32
* Physical Ed. 16
UNEXCUSED ABSENCES ABOVE THE MAXIMUM WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF COURSE
CREDIT.
